The inventor of the orbis™ ring flash, James Madelin, is coming to Birmingham for a one-off free event !

Based around the concept of a Photowalk, James and Snapperstuff will host walks around three cities in September in Leeds, Birmingham and London.

James will be teaching some of his techniques for strobist-style photography using the orbis™ system and other portable and affordable lighting gear.

With years of experience as a pro photographer and more recently as a “photopreneur”, you’re guaranteed a fun evening. There’ll be a model along and you’ll have the chance to get some fantastic photos of your own.

You don’t have to bring any gear, but to get the most from the event, bring an SLR, a flash gun, a portrait lens (50-70mm) and a way to fire your flash off camera (off camera cord, radio trigger, etc.). If you bring your own orbis™ you’ll be guaranteed to get some insider tips from James.

James and the Snapperstuff team will bring some orbis™ gear along too for you to try.

Having learnt from the inventor all the great lighting effects easily achievable with the orbis™ system, you’ll be able to buy your own orbis™ kit to take home with you.

orbis™ ring flash episode 005 – Nikon CLS setup

The basics of setting up Nikon’s Wireless “Creative Lighting System” using a Nikon D90 and an SB800. With some examples of off-camera flash photos with and without the orbis™ ring flash. The pop-up flash on the D70, D70S, D80, D90, D200, D300 and D700 can all be used to fire Nikon flashes wirelessly, check your manual for details.

the orbis™ ring flash on assignment with John Bell

Commercial photographer John Bell using the orbis™ ring flash for an assignment for a Jelly Bean campaign. Shot using an orbis™ ring flash with a Canon 580EXII as the main light and a beauty dish to one side to provide shadow depth to the beans. The camera was a Canon 5D at ISO100, 1/160, f8.0.
